Hecht has studied painting, figure drawing and pastels at Duke University, Sertoma Art Center and Pullen Park Art Center, and has taken workshops with award-winning artists.

Her love for experimentation and discovery in her paintings keeps her challenged to explore the endless possibilities. She has always found herself fascinated by the dance of light on everyday objects. She is constantly thinking about the balance of light and dark, color and edges. She challenges herself to capture the essence of her subject in such a way, to express the energy and emotion of the moment.

Hecht approaches painting much as she does life, with a sense of spontaneous playfulness. She says, "With art, as in life, it is all about the process ... not what you end up with."
